Tank Top Tuesday: Lost Girl Edition

Happy “Lost Girl” recaps are back day! Well, happy hopefully for you. Sleep deprived for me. But in a good way, a very good way. So what better way to celebrate than with tank tops! So many tank tops. “Lost Girl” is back. The ladies of “Lost Girl” are back! The Boobs O’Clock of the ladies of “Lost Girl” are back! Life doesn’t succubus suck.

Anna Silk

Does she need a gun, wherever she is?

Emmanuelle Vaugier

More Morrigan this season. MOAR!

Ksenia Solo

So many Kenzism, so little time.

Rachel Skarsten

I bet she is just dealing with the insurance claim from her wrecked truck. Yeah, that’s what she is doing.

Zoie Palmer

Melting lesbians’ ice creams since 1977. Though, gurl, that hair.

p.s. Pop over to AfterEllen later today to check out my latest recap.

My Weekend Boobs O'Clock

So today is my birthday (yes, yes, I know, thank you). So I’m going to take the release of the new “Lost Girl” Season 4 promo as special present just for me. Granted, I’m not above sharing. So, please, come in and enjoy. Just please don’t drip ice cream all over my floor.

You’re gonna want a closer look at that. [Click to enlarge, for science.]

p.s. The best thing, besides the copious Boobs O’Clock, is the unadulterated lust on Lauren’s face.

p.p.s. The second best thing is how Lauren is all, “No, wolf boy, don’t ruin this for us.”

Right, so that pretty much assures a happy weekend, all.

Lost Girl! Girls! Girls!

Oh, kittens. It’s like Christmas morning. If on Christmas morning you received tantalizing glimpses of lady-on-lady sexytimes and kick-ass previews of the next season of “Lost Girl.” It’s no secret the folks at “Lost Girl” are very secretive about new seasons and developments on the show. So that’s why we’re only receiving our first actual look at actual footage from the fourth season of the show some 26 days out from the premiere. But, goodness, when they do grace us with something, it’s really something. Bo and Lauren making out! Bo and two ladies in bed! Bo and (ugh, fine) Dyson making out! The Morrigan’s new bob! Oh, kittens, kittens. Forget Christmas. Bring on Nov. 10.

p.s. So, do you think Bo and Lauren kissed and made up? Oh yeah.

p.p.s. Here is a short preview clip of Kenzi being Kenzi.

Tank Top Tuesday

Oh, tank tops – I’ve missed you so. So, as you might have noticed, it’s been a little while since our last unrestricted Tank Top Tuesday. So let’s just go for it. Like jump right in. Like, boom, say hello to Kerry Washington and her tank top. Yeah, just like that. Sometimes I forget I don’t have to write as many of these word things to make a good post. But then I remember. You’re welcome.

Anna Silk
Production has started on Season 4. Come back, “Lost Girl,” I’ve missed
Boobs O’Clock all the exciting succubus drama.

Anna Torv
It’s an Annas we miss convention.

Anne Hathaway
Annes, too.

Grace Park
What’s she doing now that she left “Hawaii 5-O?” I hope it’s a show I’ll actually watch.

Scarlett Johansson
She is the main reason I’m going to see the next Captain America movie (besides Chris Evans’ tight little tushy – what, I’m only human).

Angelina Jolie
I find it rather strange and unseemly (cough, Melissa Etheridge, cough) to publically criticize another woman’s personal health choices. Whatever decision a woman makes for herself with fully informed consent is not, in my opinion, “fearful.”

Brandi Carlile
I just got tickets to see Brandi this summer. Excuse me while I go have a Big Gay Squee moment.

Hottest of them all

Right, so each year I feel a little responsible for creating The Beast that is the AfterEllen Hot 100. It was, after all, a post about my fury over Lindsay Lohan and the Maxim Hot 100 oh so many years ago that helped to start it all. But each year, I also dutifully tell you my vote. (Sure, this year it can be votes, but I am old school and choose to vote only once like the Founding Fathers intended or whatnot.) My picks vary, there are some constants (Tina, duh), but really whatever is turning my brain and/or heart and/or other regions most on at the moment is what makes my list. And this year is no different. Seeing as today is the last day to vote in the AE poll, I thought I would show you mine. So here they are. For all to see. Now you show me yours, it only seems fair.

p.s. You can vote in the AE Hot 100 here.

Tank Top Tuesday: Lost Girl Edition

Lost Girl is over for the season. Long live Lost Girl. For a thorough and comprehensive recap of the finale (which many of you oh-so-patient U.S. viewers finally got to watch last night), check out my episode recap on AfterEllen here.

There’s so much we’ll miss over these long, long, too long, months between the show’s return (late 2013 for Canada, early 2014 for the US – sigh). Bo’s blue and brown eyes. Lauren’s sly downcast smirk. Tamsin’s constant “bitch, please” face. Every single Kenzism. The Boobs O’Clock. So as a grateful shout-out to the Lost Girl costume department for never letting us girls (or those girls) down, an ode to the tank tops of Season 4. Like a snowflake, each one is special in her own way. I’ll refrain from making a joke about catching them on your tongue. Ahem.

Bo’s Greatest Tanks

Tamsin’s Greatest Tanks

Lauren’s Greatest Not-Quite Tanks
(Can you believe Lauren didn’t really wear any tanks? Close enough.)

Kenzi’s Greatest Trucker Tank

Bonus Kitsune Tanks

Because, you know, why not?

One Lost Time

Season finale says what? No, seriously, what the fuck is happening and how will it all end? Mad scientists! Speciesist leaders! Human terrorists! Crazy mamas! And we haven’t even begun to discuss the Big Lesbian Feelings that were brought up by Tamsin slipping into Bo’s bath and Lauren realizing she’s unwittingly poisoned her (maybe) ex’s ex. Damn, “Lost Girl” – you so crazy. And you haven’t even seen the Canadian preview yet. It’s even more nutty/nail-bitey/lady-fighty.

I don’t know about you, but I think this season has been pretty darn cohesive and pretty freaking exciting. Sure there was the bait-and-switch anti-climax of the Yawning Dawning. But now things are getting, well, good. Sure, it’s a bit of a kitchen sink hodge podge of plot points. Dr. Taft’s megalomania. The Morrigan’s species supremacy. Humans declared terrorists. Bo on the verge of being imprisoned. Tamsin wounded and unconscious. Lauren and Dyson encased in glass. And, oh yeah, Aife is back. p.s. I had to totally look up the actress to make sure the Aife we saw this week was the same Aife we saw in the first season. And, yes, it’s the same actress, Inga Cadranel. She just looks wayyyy different without her makeup.) And we haven’t even started on the whole Wanderer/probably Bo’s dad/the fire-breathing Pegasus thing.

The good news, “Lost Girl” has a whole fourth season to get into/wrap up any loose ends. The bad news, we’ll have to wait all damn summer and fall until we get to see that happen next.

My three biggest hopes for the finale and next season:

1. That Lauren does not go evil. We need more of this in the fourth season.

2. That Tamsin does not die. We need more of this girl in the fourth season.

3. That Vex returns. We need more of this dynamic duo in the fourth season.

As excited as I am to see how this whole crazy enchilada plays out, I’m also sad it’s almost over for another season. But don’t worry, we’ll always have the video of Anna Silk as the world’s most emotionally unstable flight attendant to tide us over. Now that is what I call a tension breaker.

p.s. If you need to catch up, you can read the recap of this week’s episode on AfterEllen.

p.p.S. Despite Syfy’s attempt to ruin my life and delay the airing of the finale until a week after Showcase, I will be posting the recap next Tuesday. So those who want to remain spoiler free until it airs in the U.S. just bookmark it and come back in seven days.

UPDATE: OMG, Lost Girl totally listened and answer my No. 3 request! Thanks, Aussie promo for spilling the beans!

Sink the Battleships

To quote my favorite red-haired witch, love makes you do the wacky. Love for another person. Love for our families. Love for our friends. Love for our favorite fictional characters. And love for what those fictional characters represent.

I know this; I feel it too. But sometimes I forget. Like when I joke about enjoying the hot so-called shipping wars between Doccubus and Copubus on “Lost Girl.” Wait, back up, let’s begin at the beginning. The wires and lights in a box currently only has one, yes one, TV show centered around a singular lesbian or bisexual female character. That show is “Lost Girl.” Sure, lesbian and bisexual female characters are parts of other leading ensembles – “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “Glee.” But not centered around them, which makes Bo Dennis that much more important.

And also important is the relationship Bo has had with one Dr. Lauren Lewis since the very start of the show. From first touch, these two have had electric chemistry. And we’ve waited, through starts and stops and girlfriends in a coma, until these two were in an honest to goodness, lasts more than one episode real relationship. And this season, we finally have it. Doccubus is here and it is glorious.

But now, as happily ever afters make for very dull television, there is a wrench. Bo (a bisexual Succubus who must feeds off of the sexual energy – or chi – of victims to live) needs to do just that with people other than her human lover/girlfriend/hotpants Lauren. Welcome to TV’s interesting open same-sex relationship.

As such, last week Bo and former No. 1 frenemy Tamsin, the Valkyrie Dark Fae police detective with a mean right hook, made with the kissy face. Sure, it was a necessity so Bo could go on. But it was still a kiss and as such was, empirically speaking, kinda hot. I am just a red-blooded American gay gal and I call two hot ladies together hot when I see them being hot together.

That does not, however, invalidate my feelings for Doccubus. That does not invalidate how much I enjoy/support/respect Bo and Lauren’s relationship. Nor, do I think, it in any way undermines them. But, judging form the heated explosion of Doccubus v. Copubus comments to last week’s recap, everyone does not feel the same way.

Look, far be it from me to say who you can and can’t ship as a couple. Just was we all have an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, so do we have the right to pursue all three through the semi-obsessive devotion to a fictional couplehood that may or may not exist in the aforementioned universes. Love your loves, ship your ships. And if you must start playing battleship, do so without denigrating the quality of someone else’s boat. At least that’s how I look at this big board game of life.

So, on this hiatus week for “Lost Girl,” let’s all take a breath and enjoy the show. More fans getting more excited about a real or wishful coupling means more people are invested in the show. And more, from a TV perspective, is always better. And shipping need not be a blood sport. Can’t we all just get along? Also, Doccubus4Lyfe.

UPDATE: Look, if you don’t like playful discussion of Copubus, that’s cool. I am solidly and forever Team Doccubus and have been since I started writing about the show in early May 2011, both on my site and on AfterEllen. I have recapped the show for AfterEllen since Sept. 2011 when I began weekly reviews of the second season and then wrote simultaneous retro recaps at of the first season to coincide with the U.S. airings. AfterEllen has been covering the show since November 2010 when we ran our first interview with Anna Silk. That’s less than two months after the show premiered in Canada. So to make bizarre claims of bandwagon jumping is beyond ridiculous. And to attack other talented AE writers who I respect and am friends with is not allowed on my site. And, once again, your facts are wrong – she interviewed them before the season but Showcase asked us to hold them for fear of spoilers, then she reinterviewed them entirely later in the season when the old information was obsolete. Those new Q&As ran within days of her interviewing them.

My post today was about getting along in fandom. About not attacking each other and enjoying the stories both put before and those we weave ourselves with passion and respect. If you want to yell at me about subtext, that’s your prerogative. But that’s not the discussion I am trying to have here. And to conflate the two brief comments I’ve made about Copubus with the homophobic rantings of some troll elsewhere is beyond insulting. This is my personal, non-commercial blog which I run because I love pop culture and lesbians and whenever and however the two intersect. If you bite all the open hands extended to you, all that will be left in the world are mangled stumps.

Lost and found

You know those shows where the lesbians just share long, meaningful hugs and rare chaste kisses? Or where the lesbians aren’t really lesbians, despite totally being lesbians. Or there aren’t any lesbians at all, real or imagined? Yeah, “Lost Girl” is not those shows. “Lost Girl” is a show where the gay ladies get it on, a lot. Like Donkey Kong on. Like, thank God I get to recap this show and therefore have an excuse to stare at it for hours while making hundreds of screencaps. I do it for you, internet. For you.

p.s. Yeah, you should totally be watching this show.
